Nashik News, November 2, 2025:
The much-anticipated Ranji Trophy 2025 match between Maharashtra and Saurashtra at the Hutatma Anant Kanhere Ground in Nashik saw a delayed start due to wet conditions on the field.
The four-day cricket match was originally scheduled to begin on Saturday, November 1, but continuous rainfall throughout the day prevented play.

On Sunday morning (November 2, 2025), the second day of the fixture, conditions remained uncertain as the ground retained moisture and the outfield was still damp.
Although the scheduled start time was 9:00 AM, the ground staff continued their efforts to dry the pitch and make it playable.
By the time of writing this report at 2.30pm, it was announced that the toss would be held at 3:00 PM, followed by the start of play at 3:30 PM.

Scenes from the Ground
I visited the Hutatma Anant Kanhere Ground earlier in the day and witnessed the preparations firsthand.
Ground staff were busy using rollers and equipment to remove excess moisture, while players from both Maharashtra and Saurashtra were seen practising and warming up near the boundary line.

Despite the delay, a number of spectators -families with children and groups of local cricket fans – had gathered around the grassy periphery of the ground, waiting patiently for the match to begin.

Vendors selling snacks, fruits, and water bottles added a familiar local flavour to the setting, lending a festive atmosphere to the otherwise overcast afternoon.

Historic Venue of Nashik
The Hutatma Anant Kanhere Ground, formerly known as the Golf Club Ground, is situated on Trimbak Road, close to the Civil Hospital.

Named after freedom fighter Hutatma Anant Kanhere, the ground has hosted several domestic cricket tournaments, including Ranji Trophy and Under-19 fixtures.

It remains one of the few prominent cricket venues in North Maharashtra, offering the city’s residents a chance to witness top-level domestic cricket action up close.

Nashik’s Growing Sporting Culture
While Nashik is renowned as a spiritual and cultural hub – home to temples, ghats, and heritage sites – its growing engagement with sports events like the Ranji Trophy 2025 signals a broader shift.
The city’s improved sporting infrastructure and enthusiastic audience have helped position it as an emerging destination for cricket and athletics in Maharashtra.

Looking Ahead
With better weather expected in the coming days, both Maharashtra and Saurashtra will be eager to get full play underway to gain early momentum in the Ranji Trophy 2025 season.
For Nashik’s cricket enthusiasts, the resumption of play will mark the continuation of a memorable sporting experience at the city’s historic ground.
